GRITIM-UPF publication:

Iván Martín has just published a book, co-edited with Larabi Jaidi, on the partnership between the European Union and Africa. “Le Parténariat Afrique-Europe en quête de sens” has been published in French by the OCP Policy Centre in Morocco and Part III focuses on migration flows, including a chapter by Iván Martín on “Jeunesse, Emploi, Migration et Partenariat Europe-Afrique: l’équation du futur en Afrique subsaharienne ». GRITIM-UPF news:

- Zenia Hellgren presented the results of the VAKERIPEN Project at the EUROCITIES Roma inclusion working group meeting organized by the City Council (Ajuntament) of Barcelona on May 15th. More info.

- In the framework of a special issue in  Comparative Migration Studies (2017) promoting a Multicultural-Intercultural debate (Guest editors: F. Levrau and P. Loobuyck), Ricard Zapata-Barrero have received commentaries by six leading authors (Tamar de Waal, Christian Joppke, Riva Kastoryano, François Levrau, Jocelyn Maclure and Stijn Oosterlynck) for his key-article  Interculturalism in the post-multicultural debate: a defence.  The Multicultural key-article has been written by Tariq Modood. In few weeks, Ricard Zapata-Barrero will address to these commentaries through 'Rejoinder: Multiculturalism and Interculturalism: alongside but separate'. See the original articles and commentaries.

- Sevda Tunaboylu presented her first PhD paper titled: “Stuck in the islands: Waiting, hoping and fearing (im)immobility” in International Migration Conference at Utrecht University at PANEL 26: The effects of the EU Turkey Statement on migration flows and access to protection. Here is a link to the conference: https://imcutrecht2018.wordpress.com/schedule/

Other news:

- The Hungarian Helsinki Committee has issued a call to stop the bill before the Hungarian Parliament which seeks to suppress civil society organisations that provide support and assistance to refugees and other migrants. You can find more information about the proposed bill here and some more information on the legislative changes to the asylum law already in place here. The lawfulness of these practices was declared against the ECHR by the ECtHR and is currently pending before the Grand Chamber. More info.
