After a doctoral student’s thesis project is approved, the student should plan his or her training activities in conjunction with his or her director. The primary forums for such activities is the Research Group and the Jaume Vicens Vives Historical Institute, which hold seminars and sponsor conferences and symposiums. As graduate students progress, they will also present the results of their research at national and international conferences.

From the second year on, doctoral students are required to record their participation in such activities by listing them in the intranet application seguiment tesis doctorals for their approval by the dissertation director.

Doctoral students may choose to attend seminars offered by CÍCLIKS. These cross-disciplinary seminars offer instruction on planning academic careers and furthering professional development.

At the end of each academic year, the dissertation director reports on the progress of his or her doctoral students to the Doctoral Committee by awarding an “apt” or “no apt.” Students who receive a “no apt” have six months following the meeting of the Committee to improve their mark to an “apt.”
