Do I need to take the proficiency test to be granted access to the undergraduate studies in Translation and Interpretation and Applied Languages? 

No. The proficiency test must be taken to access the undergraduate program in Translation and Interpretation for those students who are opting for the English track and for those studying the double major in Translation and Interpretation and Applied Languages. There is no proficiency test in the German, French or Catalan Sign Language tracks in either undergraduate program. 

Is the proficiency test an English placement test?

No. The proficiency test (PAP) does not evaluate linguistic knowledge. The PAP has two objectives: to obtain an overall assessment of the candidate's translation abilities, independent of the education they have, and to utilize that insight to choose the route best suited for their particular situation.

What is the test like?

Students seeking admission to the programme to work with English as their main foreign language must pass an aptitude test consisting of providing a Catalan and/or Spanish summary of a talk given in English and performing an English writing exercise.

Applicants looking to work with French, German or Catalan Sign Language as their main foreign language are not required to take a test, although prior knowledge of the tongue in question is essential.

Do I need to take this test if I have an English Certificate?

Yes. The proficiency test is not a language placement test. It is a test that provides an overall assessment of the candidate's translation abilities, independent of the education they have, and utilizes that insight to choose the route best suited for their particular situation.

When is the scheduled test date?
Mid-June. The exact date can be found on the Faculty website.
 

Can I take the test on another date?

No. The test has a single scheduled date. However, in exceptional circumstances, a committee can determine whether it is appropriate to change the date. 

Is a test also scheduled for September?

No. The test can only be taken once per academic year (mid-June). The test might be offered in September if by July there are still spots remaining in the English track.

Can I still be granted access to the English track of the undergraduate program if I fail the test?

No. Receiving a passing grade (apto) on the test is a requisite for admission to the English track of the undergraduate program in Translation and Interpretation.
