On December 1st 2023 professor Pierre Auger passed away at 79 years old. He studied at Laval University (Quebec, Canada) and carried out his PhD at the Social Sciences Strasbourg University (France). He was a teacher at the Laval University’s Department of languages, linguistics and translation for 30 years. From 1987 until 1995 he ran the terminology at the Office québécois de la langue française.

A benchmark in lexicography, terminology and language technologies, Teresa Cabré met him during a trip to Quebec. Years later, Pierre Auger stayed at IULA as a visiting professor, with an aid granted by the Ministry of Education. During his stay he taught several seminars and collaborated actively in the IULATERM group’s project about designing and developing an integrated work space for lexicographers and terminologists, financed by the Ministry of Industry.

After his stay, some of us were lucky enough to see him again in Barcelona and in Quebec, as well as terminology and neology conferences or personal visits.

We will miss his wisdom and goodness.
