The dissemination of scientific activity through the publication of studies in academic journals has become an essential element in the professional and academic career of all researchers, as has obtaining financing to continue their line of research.

On 17 February from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, in the morning in the auditorium on UPF’s Poblenou campus (Roc Boronat, 138. Barcelona) and in the afternoon in classrooms 55.309 and 55.410 on the same campus, the second edition of the International Conference on Academic Communication Journals (ACJ2017) will be held, organized by the Department of Communication with the support of the Board of Trustees of Pompeu Fabra University.

This activity began in 2015 on a biennial basis to explore and discuss the issue of publishing in scientific journals, one of the basic activities of researchers and scholars in the field of Communication Sciences, which includes the interests of researchers, publishers and academic institutions.

Some of the issues to be dealt with in the second edition of the International Conference on Academic Communication Journals hinge around how research into communication is published and disseminated; the influence of social networks on the collaborative work of researchers and academics; good practices for disseminating studies and the possibility of innovation in models of dissemination; the influence of published papers on the author’s academic career and on project financing, as well as the problems and the approach to possible solutions.

The programme includes a common first part for all participants, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and two parallel sessions, from 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm. The first part consists of the opening session, to be given by Enric Vallduví, UPF vice-rector for Research and Doctoral Studies, and José Fernández Cavia, director of the Department of Communication at UPF, with the participation of Núria Basi, president of the UPF Board of Trustees. This will be followed by the keynote addresses by experts from home and abroad that will end with a round table with the participation of all in attendance.

Two parallel sessions with editors of renowned communication journals

When publishing, to what extent do established academic social networks influence? It is possible to introduce changes to the models of publication and dissemination? Or, what is the attendees’ experience of online digital platforms? These are some of the issues pertaining to the afternoon session in classroom 55.309 from 3.00 pm until 5:30 pm, with regard to international dissemination, for which the organizers have invited the editors Alastair Phillips (Screen), Friedrich Krotz (The European Journal of Communication Research), and Lee Edwards (Journal of Communication), chaired by Frederic Guerrero-Solé (UPF).

At the same time, in classroom 55.410 (in Spanish) on the Poblenou campus, a second session will take place dealing with the dissemination of studies in the local sphere. It will address the issue of the incentives authors receive from national and regional governments; multilingualism; how to encourage native sources, etc. This session will be chaired by Lluís Codina, lecturer and researcher with the Department of Communication, which will enjoy the participation of the editors of: Communication & SocietyBil, adComunicaComunicar, L’AtalanteHipertext and Catalan Journal of Cultural Studies.

The event will end with a series of conclusions that will be chaired by Glòria Salvadó, deputy director for research at the Department of Communication of UPF.

After the Conference, at 6:00 pm., in the auditorium of the Communication campus it will be possible to attend the colloquium for the presentation of the monograph of the journal L’Atalante, “Desire and eroticism in dictatorial times”, coordinated by the Department of Communication’s CINEMA research group in the framework of the research project “The erotic body of the actress under Fascisms
