Each year, between 5 and 10 doctoral and postdoctoral fellows in the areas of Law, History, Economics, Political Science and Humanities of the European Institute University (Florence, Italy) come to the UPF to attend the Max Weber Teaching Practice Week, a series of sessions in which they are trained on university teaching.

This year, Akisato Suzuki (Japan), Alexandra Alice Chadwick (United Kingdom), Aris Trantidis (Greece), Francesco Molteni (Italy), Jonathan Edward Greenwod (Canada), Maxim Goryunov (Russia) and Nevena Kulic will be guided by a number of UPF tutors and mentors for a week.

Some tutors use the program's economic endowment to reward students with outstanding curricula by assigning them as " mentors" to the incoming fellows. "It's a good way to encourage students and help them make international contacts," says Daniele Cozzoli, professor of the Humanities Department and tutor for the 2017 Max Weber Program. "Actually this year our mentors are students from the Master in World History who would like to pursue a PhD programme in the European University Institute, as well as attend their Summer School," he adds.

During their stay at the UPF, the Max Weber fellows are received by the Vicerector of Teaching and Academic Planning, Prof. Mireia Trenchs. They also enjoy the opportunity to meet field-related teachers and researchers and to impart some teaching hours in their corresponding UPF faculties. From the CLIK they are also offered an elaborate training and evaluation programme in collaboration with UPF Languages.

UPF is one of the Max Weber Programme’s partner universities together with the London School of Economics (UK), the University of Humboldt (Germany), the Masarykovo Univerzita (Czech Republic) and the European University Institute (Italy). It runs this programme since 2010 and has hosted more than 50 international students ever since.
