Design thinking is an innovation-based thinking methodology conceived and popularized by IDEO, a Silicon Valley design company. Design thinking is a technique used by designers to propose new products, buildings, machines, etc.. It consists of 5 steps: empathy, definition, ideation, prototyping and validation.

In education, design thinking allows teachers to design learning experiences that help students develop 21st century skills such as analytical thinking, innovation, active learning, learning strategies, creativity, originality and initiative.

In order to explore this innovation methodology, the UPF’s CLIK has organized a specific workshop on design thinking. Along 3 hours, you will learn how to apply design thinking to your course and what tools and resources to use.

The workshop will be taught by Francesc Balagué, PhD in educational multimedia from the University of Barcelona, primary school teacher and psychopedagogue. Balagué has extensive experience in the field of teaching, training, and educational innovation. He is the author of several publications and blogs. He has was introduced to design thinking by IDEO and the Interaction Design Foundation. He has coached teams at the LEINN university degree in leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation and has also worked as an educational innovation consultant. He is currently the academic director of the CIB - Culinary Institute of Barcelona, a school involving cooking, creativity and innovation.
