The attendees of the conference "Multilingualism in Society, Politics and Education" praise the trilingual language policy of UPF

On the 16, 17 and 18 March, the international conference "Multilingualism in Society, Politics and Education" took place at the University of Freiburg (Germany).
21.04.2017

The three-day conference included plenary communications, parallel sessions, round tables and a poster session. It was structured around four topics:

  1. Lifelong multilingualism
  2. Multilingualism as an integration policy
  3. Didactics of multilingualism
  4. English as a Medium of Instruction: Encouraging multicultural interaction?

The UPF participated with a presentation called "Promoting Language Learning at Pompeu Fabra University: Managing Multilingualism in the Classroom", by Mireia Calm, coordinator for the UPF’s multilingualism policies. The conference presented the UPF’s Plan of Action for Multilingualism and the language policy of the UPF, with special emphasis on the specialized training that the Center for Learning Innovation & Knowledge offers to the university’s professors and researchers.

The UPF model aroused a great deal of interest and generated profund debate among the participating institutions, including several universities of Germany and France, the University of Oslo (Norway) and the Association for Academic Cooperation in Brussels (Belgium). The UPF’s trilingual policy and the example of harmonious coexistence between our three languages received a great number of praises on behalf of the participants.
