Three proposals designed by UPF students win the Hacklab Awards first edition

A solidarity campaign, a smartphone application and a social network are the winning projects.

The Hacklab Awards is a UPF initiative that acknowledges economically projects devised by university students from different disciplines. In their first edition the awards aim to promote, encourage and facilitate self-learning, exchange of interdisciplinary knowledge and collaboration between students on topics such as technology, communication or digital arts.
 
This year eight proposals have been selected to participate in the awards, and three of them have been awarded:
 
  • 1st prize (800 €). 'Un gomet vermell' ('a red sticker'). A solidarity campaign to collect benefits for the NGO "Pallapupes", which helps combat the loneliness and the fear of hospitalized children with humor, and makes hospitals more humane and kind.
    • Roger Cuartielles, graduate in Journalism (UPF) and student of Humanities (UPF)
    • Glòria Macià, graduate in Biomedical Engineering (UPF)
    • Sergi Macià, student of Electronic Engineering (UPC)
    • Mireia Rom, graduate in Journalism (UPF) and student of Humanities (UPF)

       
  • First mention (200 €): “GameSquare”.  A smartphone application to buy / sell geolocalized video games and consoles. 
    • Gerard Jané, student in Political and Administration Sciences (UPF)
    • Jaume Jané, graduate in Telecommunications Engineering (UPC)
    • Enric Górriz, student of Computer Science (UPF)

       
  • Second mention (200 €): “Pompeu.cat”. Social network for UPF students that seeks to establish a constant link between them in order to disseminate resources and create community.
    • Andy Fernández, student of double bachelor’s degree programme in Law and Business Management and Administration (UPF)
    • Alan Fusté, student of double bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science and Telecommunication Systems Engineering (UAB)

The Hacklab is part of the project PlaCLIK 2016/2017 ‘IMAX: Interaccions més enllà de les assignatures i les aules per augmentar l’èxit dels estudiants ‘ (‘IMAX: Interactions beyond subjects and classrooms to increase student success". This project was awarded to the UPF Teaching Quality and Innovation Support Units (USQUID ), coordinated by Professor Davinia Hernández Leo and in which the Center for Learning Innovation and Knowledge (CLIK) participates.
