Guides to promote the recognition of occupational disease
From the Center for Research in Occupational Health CISAL-UPF / IMIM, we carry out a research project with the aim of improving the identification and recognition of occupational diseases of patients treated in hospitals of the National Health System. A health problem barely considered in the National Health System and that occurs as a consequence of the secular under-recognition of PD in Spain by the National Institute of Social Security. On the other hand, the economic burden that your attention supposes for the System is evaluated.
The results obtained with the CEPS project will improve the competences in Occupational Medicine of the physicians of the specialties that have more relation with the EP, such as Oncology, Pulmonology, Dermatology, Otorhinolaryngology, Urology, Traumatology / Orthopedic Surgery and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation . In turn, the specialists in Occupational Medicine will improve their professional relations with other clinical specialties, and will incorporate a systematized methodology for the evaluation of suspected cases of PD.
In this project, funded by the Carlos III FIS Health Institute (CEPS PI16 / 00061), 10 hospitals from all over Spain participate https://www.upf.edu/web/cisal/proyecto-ceps and is led by Dr. Consol Serra, senior researcher of our group.
As a result of this research, we have developed two Guidelines to support patients and professionals to promote the recognition of occupational diseases before the National Institute of Social Security.
