Dorothy Vaughan was a prominent US scientist and mathematician, known for her key role in the space age. Born in 1910, in Kansas City, she showed a great talent for mathematics from a very young age. After earning a degree in mathematics from Wilberforce University, she began to work as a teacher and, later, joined NASA, despite the barriers for Black woman to do so in the first half of the 20th century

Vaughan excelled in the field of programming and contributed significantly to the US space programme. Her success story has left an essential inspirational legacy for women and the African American community in the field of science and technology.
