The JHU–UPF Public Policy Center participated in the latest SPATIOTEMPO consortium gathering in Bolzano, Italy, contributing a hands-on workshop for students enrolled in the MA in Eco-Social Design at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (unibz).

The session was co-led by Angelina Kussy (UPF Barcelona School of Management & JHU–UPF Public Policy Center) and Lukas Heck (WU Vienna), and facilitated by Teresa Palmieri (unibz). Drawing on perspectives from both service design and public policy, the inputs explored how design thinking and institutional frameworks can be combined to advance local time policies — a central concern of the SPATIOTEMPO project — and contribute to more caring and socially inclusive cities.

The workshop offered a great space for researchers and emerging practitioners to think together about how time, care, and urban design intersect — and what policy can do to put people at the centre.

The exchange with students at the forefront of eco-social design practice brought fresh perspectives to ongoing research questions within the SPATIOTEMPO project, while also offering the students an opportunity to engage directly with EU-funded research at the intersection of spatial planning, temporal governance, and environmental justice.

The visit reinforced the centre's commitment to knowledge exchange beyond academic circles, fostering dialogue between researchers and the next generation of socially engaged practitioners.
