The JHU–UPF Public Policy Center is proud to highlight the exceptional academic contribution of Dr. Joan Benach, co-director of the center, Professor of Sociology at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and director of the GREDS–EMCONET research group. According to the latest bibliometric rankings, Dr. Benach is the 11th most cited researcher in Spain overall, and the 7th most cited in the social sciences category — a distinction that reflects decades of rigorous, high-impact scholarship.

With a D-Index that places him at position 596 in the world, Dr. Benach stands as one of the most internationally recognised voices in public health research. His work focuses on the structural and social conditions that generate and perpetuate health inequalities — a field of growing relevance in the context of contemporary labour markets and welfare state transformations.

As co-director of the Johns Hopkins University – Universitat Pompeu Fabra Public Policy Center, Dr. Benach bridges academic research and policy practice, contributing to evidence-based frameworks that inform decision-makers at national and international levels.
