New Publication: Innovating Methodological Validation through Feminist and Intersectional Perspectives

We’re proud to announce the publication of our latest article: "A Spiral Validation Process: Applying Qualitative, Feminist and Intersectional Perspectives to the Validation of an Online Methodological Tool" by Juliana Inez Luiz de Souza, postdoctoral researcher, and Maria Rodó-Zárate, Principal Investigator of the INTERMAPS project.
This article contributes a groundbreaking model for validating digital methodological tools—in this case, the new version of ReliefMaps+, a web-based platform that integrates quantitative, qualitative, emotional, and spatial data to analyze how structural inequalities shape everyday life.
What makes this work unique is that it introduces the spiral validation model, a non-linear and reflexive process grounded in feminist and intersectional epistemologies. It challenges dominant validation standards rooted in positivist, linear frameworks by proposing a more inclusive and iterative methodology. The article centers positionality, reflexivity, and ethics, emphasizing how social positions and power dynamics shape the production of knowledge. It brings in the voices of experts, policymakers, activists, and research participants, demonstrating that validation is a collective and situated process. Ultimately, it offers a concrete and replicable methodology for those aiming to design or validate research tools from feminist and intersectional perspectives.
This article fills a crucial gap in the literature by offering a detailed, replicable validation framework for methodological tools aligned with feminist and intersectional principles.
