Data Protection

Data collected within each project are accessible only to the researchers who created and manage that specific project. They are not public and are not shared with other researchers, third parties or Relief Maps administrators.

ReliefMaps+ website fully complies with European data protection laws, specifically the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Spain's Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD). The platform ensures that researchers who register and use it consent to the processing of their personal data through standard data protection mechanisms. If a project involves processing personal data, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, as the provider of the ReliefMaps+ platform, will act as the ‘Data Processor’. The researchers configuring the project and using its results will act as the ‘Data Controller’.

Legal documents (see Terms of Use and Privacy Policy) are consistent across projects and cannot be modified or removed by research projects.

Researchers using the ReliefMaps+ website should not process direct identification or contact data related to project participants (such as names, positions, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other similar personal data). However, some projects may process sociodemographic data about each participant, which in some cases could allow for their indirect identification. Moreover, due to the nature of the research projects using ReliefMaps+, which might focus on analyzing inequalities and discrimination, will process special categories of personal data. Thus, GDPR compliance is compulsory for ReliefMaps+, and when researchers create their own projects, they must fulfil all obligations as Data Controllers required by the GDPR and any other applicable national regulations. ReliefMaps+ also provides the possibility to upload the specific Information Sheet and Informed Consent, which participants must accept before their participation in the project begins.
