Núria Franco-Guillén is a postdoctoral research associate at the Aberystwyth University (Wales, UK). She is member of the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Immigration (GRITIM-UPF). She is also editor of GRITIM-UPF Policy Series and GRITIM-UPF Working Paper Series. She has been postdoctoral research fellow at Griffith University (Australia, 2017-2018) and pre-doctoral visiting fellow at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland, UK, 2012) and the Université du Quebec à Montreal (Quebec, Canada, 2012). She defended her PhD and Universitat Pompeu Fabra in november 2015 on the analysis of stateless nationalist and regionalist parties' discourses on immigration comparing cases in Catalonia Quebec and Scotland. She obtained a qualification of excellent with a cum laude mention and was awarded with the Extraordinary Prize to the Best Doctoral Thesis by the University. She is also co-coordinator of the young scholars network on Migration and Territory (MiTe) within the Standing Group on Multilevel governance at IMISCOE. Her research is extends on different combinations between immigration, sub-state territorial movements, governance, and deliberative democracy, with a mixed methods approach primarily focused on the use of textual data. She teaches several courses (lectures and seminars) in the Faculties of Political Science and Law at the degree and masters level. She has also collaborated with the Council of Europe (Intercultural Cities), and the Faculty of Law (Quality Report) and worked as a research assistant for the WZB (Berlin, Germany) EUI (Florence, Italy) and Vrije Universiteet (Brussels, Belgium). She had previously worked as a political analyst at the Centre de Documentació Política (2006-2008). She had previously worked as a political analyst at the Centre de Documentació Política (2006-2008).

 

RESEARCH LINES

Immigration: Economic crisis and social cohesion. Political discourses and stances. Perceptions towards immigration in times of crisis. Perceptions of immigrants.

Stateless Nationalism: Centre-periphery cleavage [identity, power and economy]. Sub-state political movements. Multi-level politics and territorial organisation of power. Intergovernmental relations. Western Europe and Canada.

Political Parties: Stateless nationalist parties and sub-state politics. Political discourses and party positions. 

Deliberative democracy: Deliberative systems. Referendums of constitutional change. Big scale discussions.
