Migrations in the Mediterraean, co-edited by Ricard Zapata-Barrero (GRITIM-UPF) and Ibrahim Awad (Center for Migration and Refugee Studies, American University in Cairo) is an open access book gathering contributions from almost 40 researchers working on migration issues in the Mediterranean.

Throughout its 24 chapters, the book showcases a plurality of approaches to addressing Mediterranean migrations, and contributes to a regional approach by scaling Mediterranean migration issues. The comprehensive volume, which thinks about the Mediterranean as a complex and heterogeneous region, covers a large set of questions related to Mediterranean migrations from all geographic perspectives and from a multidisciplinary and intergenerational standpoint. Its 24 chapters are distributed among five sections: Geo-political Mediterranean Relations; Governance, Policies and Politics; Mobility drivers and Agency; Cities, History and Social Transformations; and Economy and Labour Markets.

This Regional Reader provides an interesting read to scholars, researchers, and students, but also policy makers and civil society organizations’ representatives, international foundations and institutions interested in understanding migrations as well as their drivers and impacts, from a conceptually broad and regional perspective.

This volume is one of the key actions of EuroMedMig, a platform of leading researchers working on Mediterranean Migration coordinated by GRITIM-UPF. EuroMedMig is an IMISCOE Regional Network, and its activities were part of a three-year (2019-2022) Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Network Project entitled “Mapping European Mediterranean Migration Studies” (Acronym: EUMedMi). Many of the authors contributing to this volume are in fact members of EuroMedMig from research centers from all shores of the Mediterranean.

All chapters and full book can be freely accessed and downloaded at the publishers’ website.
