Welcome New Member at EuroMedMig: Dina Abdel Fattah, Assistant Professor of Economics, at the American University of Cairo
EuroMedMig is pleased to welcome Dina Abdel Fattah, Assistant Professor of Economics at the Mohamed Shafik Gabr Department of Economics, Onsi Sawiris School of Business, The American University in Cairo, as a new member of the network.
Professor Abdel Fattah’s research sits at the intersection of labor economics, migration, and development, with particular emphasis on labor mobility, skills mismatch, and the economic integration of refugees and migrants. Her work engages with both macro-level policy frameworks and micro-level labor market dynamics, shedding light on how mobility interacts with employment, informality, and social inclusion across Egypt and the wider MENA region.
She has been actively involved in several international research collaborations, including the EU Horizon (GS4S) project on skills and migration, a J-PAL initiative investigating the root causes of irregular migration, and the Gulf Research Center’s study on highly skilled migration to the Gulf. In addition to her migration-related work, she conducts research on gender disparities, informal employment, and the future of work, contributing to a more inclusive understanding of economic development and labor market reform.
Driven by a strong commitment to evidence-based policymaking, Abdel Fattah’s scholarship provides valuable insights into migration governance, brain drain, and the structural challenges that shape labor market access and economic opportunity, particularly for vulnerable and mobile populations.
