Projects in progress
- Digital Missions for Care Social Economy's Resilience (DIMCARE). IP: Monllau Jaques, Teresa Maria. The aim of the project is to respond to the need for digitalisation in the people care sector within the social economy ecosystem. The use of new technologies and digital social innovations within a social enterprise or social economy ecosystem context is key for the future, now that digital transition has become a duty for all the economic contexts. Project start and end: 2022-2023.
-
Efectos de la salud en el empleo: evidencia de la cohorte WORKss. IP: Garcia Benavides, Fernando The main objective of the project is to explore the complex relationship between health and employment, while evaluating the impact of the social protection system on this relationship.Project start and end: 2020-2023.
- Fairness and Intersectional Non-Discrimination in Human Recommendation (FINDHR). IP: Castillo Ocaranza, Carlos. Algorithmic hiring is the usage of tools based on Artificial intelligence (AI) for finding and selecting job candidates. As other applications of AI, it is vulnerable to perpetuate discrimination. Considering technological, legal, and ethical aspects, the FINDHR project will facilitate the prevention, detection, and management of discrimination in algorithmic hiring and closely related areas involving human recommendation. Project start and end: 2022-2025
-
Microdiachrony in endangered languages across modalities (MICRODIAC(H)RO). IP: Barberà Altimira, Gemma i Quer Villanueva, Jose Francisco. This project focuses on two endangered languages in different modalities: Catalan Sign Language (LSC, Catalonia) and Griko (Italiot- Greek variety of Salento, Southern Italy). Change in morphosyntactic properties within such languages has received very little attention so far. This project will make a novel contribution to fill this gap in research from a cross-modal perspective on two fronts: (a) exploring how diachronic change in a relatively small time span can be detected, described and accounted for (microdiachrony), and (b) creating research resources in the form of two corpora that include transcribed and annotated data to make the study of grammatical change feasible. Project start and end: 2021-2025.
-
Razón pública global: derechos humanos, legitimidad democrática y cambio demográfico (GLOPUR). IP: Moreso Mateos, Josep Joan. The expected impact is to develop a model of public reason that serves to assess the legitimacy of political decisions and institutions at the international and global level -e.g. the European Court of Human Rights-, at the same time that it serves as a useful criteria for the design of political institutions and decisions at the international and global level . Project start and end: 2021-2024
-
Reforzando los derechos de las personas trabajadoras en riesgo de exclusión social en la economía verde y circular (GreenPoors). IP: Chacartegui Javega, Consuelo. The premise from which we start at GreenPoors is that the transition towards a circular and green economy will involve multiple labour law institutions, especially in relation to the vulnerable groups of workers. Therefore, the actions that mitigate the risk of social exclusion with respect to vulnerable workers must constitute one of the priorities of the different public and private actions towards a new productive model of circular and green economy with social and democratic foundations. Project start and end: 2023-2026.

- SCOM – Sustainable Company PI: Melon, Lela This project aims to provide new inter- and multidisciplinary solutions to the challenges of sustainable corporate behaviour through the analysis of ‘best practices’ of ‘highly sustainable companies’, and by using the experience of ‘green public procurement’ in the EU and especially in Catalunya. Project start and: 2018-2020
- Social Justice and the Future of Work. IP: Parr, Thomas Alexander. (Q1) What does it mean for labour markets to be socially just and, in particular, what is the nature of the relationship between social justice and economic efficiency in labour markets? (Q2) In light of our answer to the first question, as well as various empirical facts about technological change, which labour market policies serve the pursuit of social justice? These are the two research questions on which this project is focused. Its aim is to show how an empirically-informed political philosophy can answer those questions in ways that guide labour market policymakers in responding to some of the major challenges facing modern economies. Project start and end: 2020-2022
