The Observatori de Neologia (OBNEO) is a public-funded consolidated group within the Institut Universitari de Lingüística Aplicada at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Since 1996 has been recognized as a consolidated research group of Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Objectives

  • To have a corpus of neology of great diffusion in Catalan and Spanish, corresponding to the neology extraction from written and spoken texts.
  • To describe and analize the resources used by Catalan and Spanish to update their lexic, with works carried out by our group and that are made known various publications and the participation in lectures, and communications.
  • To publish periodically the new lexical creations, on the one hand, in papers with the neologisms documented yearly in Catalan and in Spanish, and, on the other hand, in dictionaries of neologisms.
  • To contribute to the updating of the lexic of the the general dictionaries.
  • To establish a workbench that allows the exchange with other groups of neology. The Observatori de Neologia leads a group of networks of observatories of neology.
