1. Enrolment

The student will submit an application form for the final project before the end of the first quarter of the second year. The form will state a proposed tutor and the subject or title of the project.

2. Tutorship

The coordinator of the master's degree will designate the different tutors of the final projects from among the teachers of the programme. The student's proposal of the teacher for the tutorship of the project will not be binding, although it will be taken into account when making the final appointment. The tutor will establish the schedule, deadlines and supervision of the various stages of developing and writing the project, which will be throughout the second and third quarters of the second year of the master's degree. The tutor has the following duties:

a) To inform the student about the characteristics and objectives of the project.
b) To direct the student's efforts towards the development of the project and its monitoring. 
c) To authorize the student to present and defend the project.

3. Submitting the project

Completed projects which have the authorization of the tutor will be deposited in the Office of the Department of Humanities together with the final project deposit form. The project must be deposited before the end of the third quarter of the second year of the master's degree and in any case before the end of June. Two copies must be submitted on paper and one PDF document must be forward to [email protected] . These documents must be named as follows: "Name_Surname_Short title" (eg: "Jaume_Pi_La China..."). The project can be written in Catalan, Spanish or English.

The deposit form will include the following:

1. Surname, name and identity number of the student
2. Title of the project
3. Declaration of project originality and reliable citation of sources
4. Signature of the student 
5. Surname, name and authorization signature of the tutor
6. Date of deposit and Office stamp

4. Assessment of the project

The project will be assessed before the end of June of the second year of the master's degree by a dissertations committee composed of two PhD members. Research Projects will be assessed publicly. Each project will be given a numerical mark. The committee will state the mark given for the project in a certificate which will be signed by the members of the committee.

The defence and public assessment will not exceed 15 minutes and will be according to the following outline:

a) Student's exposition
b) Committee's comments and questions
c) Student's answers
d) Committee's deliberation

5. Originality of the project

Any reproduction of sentences or paragraphs of other authors' texts without citing the source will be considered plagiarism, whether it is from Internet, a book, a magazine or even the projects of other students. This kind of practices will result in the student failing the subject, and a file will be opened which may lead to the impossibility of obtaining the master's degree.

6. Master's degree final project

The first page of the project will state the name of the master's degree, the title of the project, the author and the name of the tutor.

The project will be no less than 10,000 words long and no more than 20,000, including notes and bibliography (but excluding appendices).

The project will be presented in font size 12, with 1.5 spacing, and justified on the right. Chinese characters may be written either in the traditional or the simplified manner, or may be transliterated according to the pinyin system.

The project must consist of an original exercise of critical interpretation of any topic related to the studies, with the student's own contribution, using primary sources or conducting empirical work of quantitative, qualitative or mixed methodology.

The student must show a perfect command of the topic, writing capacity according to the parameters of academic texts (citation, notes, bibliography, proof of sources, etc.) and capacity for analysis, argumentation and synthesis of results.

The project must include a summary of no more than 200 words, hypothesis, aims, methodology, exposition of the project and conclusions.
