Do I need to know Chinese to take part in the Master's Degree?
Not necessarily. Prior knowledge of Chinese is not required at the beginner level , and at the same time a higher Chinese level for professional purposes for those who do have previous knowledge.

What language options are there if I have a degree in East Asian studies or have studied several Chinese courses? 
The Master's Degree offers Chinese for academic and professional purposes, adapting the level to that of each student.

Is there a professional training placement in the Master's Degree?
Students will be offered a non curricular professional training placement. The posts will be awarded according to the students' CV. Some posts will require a high-level knowledge of Chinese and/or certain Bachelor-level studies (trade, law, etc.). There are posts in institutions, companies, NGOs and the university itself (the library, etc.).  

Do I have to pay the full amount of the Master's Degree the first year?
This Master's Degree consists of 90 ECTS and is designed to last two years. You only have to pay for the credits for which you register. In certain suitably justified cases, the Master's Degree can be done part-time, in three years.

Can I take the second year of the Degree in China?
The Degree includes an optional subject of 15 ECTS on a stay in an Asian-related centre.

Are there scholarships or exchange programmes enabling students to take the second year of the Degree at a foreign university?
The Master's Degree has exchange agreements with Chinese, Japanese and Korean universities, as well as some European universities. Apart from the exchange programmes there are several annually awarded scholarships (15 by the Chinese government, ICO scholarships, etc.) that help students during their time in China. There is a project whereby students will be able to obtain a double Degree, from the UPF and a Chinese university, if they take the second year at that university.

Can Chinese students take this Master's Degree?
Chinese students have taken it since the first time it was put on. For both researchers and professionals in different fields, or even future translators, this Master's Degree offers useful education and training to suit their particular needs.

Is any Bachelor's Degree sufficient to get on the Master's Degree?
This Degree is designed for students with an East Asia BA who want to specialise in any aspect of China, as well as for students who have a BA in a specific field (law, economy, humanities, journalism, architecture, tourism, etc.) and want to shape their education with an interdisciplinary specialisation in the broad spectrum of Chinese subjects and disciplines.

Why does the Master's Degree consist of 90 ECTS and last two years?
This is due to its scope. It is a two-year course to allow students to spend time in China within the Degree and for the academic subjects in the Final Project to be thorough and patiently elaborated.

Is it possible to work and make the most of the Master's Degree?
Students are recommended to devote themselves to the course full-time, but it is possible to do work as well. All the classes are in the afternoon/evening from Monday to Thursday . The Master's requires attendance and the 30-hour subjects involve individual work (at home or in the library) for at least twice as long as class time.
