Last November 25, the ASPB-UPF Public Health Chair Conference: Primary Care and the Barbara Starfield Model took place at the Mar Campus.

Primary Health Care (PHC) is the gateway to the health system, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and continuous care, with a perspective that includes the family and the community, and cultural competence. Barbara Starfield was a pioneer in the research and evaluation of PHC performance, a line of work that is maintained and has expanded worldwide today.

Presentations:

The international dissemination of the principles of the Primary Health Care (PHC) strategy through the Barbara Starfield model, by Silvina Berra. National University of Córdoba (Argentina). Co-coordinator of the Ibero-American PCATIA Collaboration and CONICET.

The evaluation of PHC in Barcelona: 20 years of the incorporation of Primary Care Assessment Tools (PCAT), by Maribel Pasarín Desfile. Public Health Agency of Barcelona. Researcher at CIBERESP, the IR Sant Pau, and associate professor at UPF.

The debate panel included:

Remedios Martín Álvarez. EAP Vallcarca (Barcelona). President of semFYC: Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine.

Montse Ferrer. Health services research group at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute, CIBERESP researcher, and associate professor at UPF.

Moderators: Consuelo Serra and Maica Rodríguez-Sanz, director and deputy director of the ASPB-UPF Public Health Chair.
