Multifaceted intervention for the prevention and management of musculoskeletal pain in nursing staff: Results of a cluster randomized controlled trial

Researchers from CiSAL UPF / IMIM have estimated that interventions to prevent and manage musculoskeletal pain in nursing staff need a multifactorial approach that includes the three levels of prevention and that are part of the biopsychosocial model of health.

Nurses and nursing assistants are exposed to a great risk of developing musculoskeletal pain. This intervention showed a 63% decrease in risk of cervical, dorsal and shoulders pain in the nursing staff after the intervention, and compared to the control group. These results suggest that interventions to prevent and manage musculoskeletal pain need a multifactorial approach that includes the three levels of prevention and that are part of the biopsychosocial health model.
