The ILO, founded a hundred years ago on the principle that there can be no world peace without social justice, recalls that decent work is also part of the commitments adopted by the entire international community within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Decent work and the Sustainable Development Goals

During the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, decent work and the four pillars of the Decent Work Agenda - job creation, social protection, rights at work and social dialogue - became central elements of the new 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development. Objective 8 of the 2030 Agenda urges the promotion of sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full productive employment and decent work, and will be a fundamental area of action for the ILO and its constituents. In addition, other key aspects of decent work are widely present in the goals of many of the other 16 goals of the new United Nations development vision.

The statements of the leaders and the action plans of the G20, the G7, the European Union, the African Union and other regional and multilateral organizations also confirm the importance of decent work to overcome the crisis and sustainable development.
