Given the high cost of sickness absence (SA) in Spain, it is a priority at all levels (ranging from health care to administrative) to implement good management, in a more efficient manner, while retaining the justice that this important provision represents. The effective management of the sickness absence is a social and ethical necessity. A key element to improve the management of sickness absence is to have good information systems to help us follow the episodes and prognostic factors.

The purpose of the (SA) project is to describe the major determinants of sickness absence in workers with the aim of producing useful knowledge and tools to improve their management; both medical and administrative. This information is of great interest to institutions related to the management of sickness absence, whether mutual, Social Security or other social enterprises.
