Rafael Redondo
Project: BAIT
Mentor

Researcher at the Eurecat Multimedia Technologies Unit. He received his doctorate in computer vision at the Institute of Optics (CSIC) and at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Telecomunicaciones (ETSIT) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in 2007. Subsequently, he has participated in international European projects in visualization of volumetric-3D medical images (CSIC, 2009), camera contrast enhancement (Imatrics, 2010), evaluation of automatic focus system (Visilab Universidad de Castilla La Mancha, 2011), automatic pollen recognition (Inspiralia 2013) and evaluation of medical image quality (UCLM, 2014). He also received a master's degree in Sonology from the University of Pompeu Fabra (UPF). His research fields include biological models of human vision, image coding and compression, time-frequency representations, medical imaging, and pattern recognition. In the field of interactive systems, he has worked as freelancer on projects for Cosmocaixa (Top Ciencia) and La Fura dels Baus (MURS). In recent years at Eurecat he has worked with deep neural models (Deep Learning) in disparate projects such as natural-matting effects for film post-production, depth estimation in 360 virtual reality, or detection of hidden faces in video surveillance. Currently, he works on multimodal generative models and 3D reconstruction in cultural heritage. He has 17 publications in international journals and 20 in international conferences.
