David Dalmazzo joins the MTG under a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship

David Dalmazzo obtained his PhD in 2020 at the MTG. After three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, he returns to the MTG with the research project ANIMA, funded by the European Commission's MSCA postdoctoral fellowships program.
The project, supervised by Sergi Jordà, aims to counteract one of the biggest risks technology and AI can pose to music: the homogenization of musical output and the erosion of creative agency. It seeks to capitalise on the opportunities that technology offers in this field by putting computational and machine learning models at the service of creators' needs.
ANIMA will contribute to the promotion and preservation of cultural creation and diversity, with a focus on microtonal tuning systems that are inclusive of non-Western traditions. It also aims to make it easier for musicians to access and explore new harmonic structures and chord qualities. The project will create an open-access platform to facilitate experimentation with microtonal structures and open up new horizons in fields as diverse as music education, musicology, and the digital humanities.
Welcome David!
