The international gathering of the EUTOPIA alliance, which will take place from 22 to 26 November at Ciutadella campus, will mark the conclusion of the EUTOPIA MORE project and the beginning of a new phase with EUTOPIA EDGE, both coordinated by UPF.

Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) has published the programme for EUTOPIA Week Barcelona 2026, which will take place from 22 to 26 November under the theme Universities for Democracy. The event will bring together students, researchers, academic staff and technical staff from the institutions that make up the European EUTOPIA alliance, as well as representatives of its governing bodies, to reflect on the role of universities in addressing current democratic challenges and strengthening international academic cooperation.

This edition will be particularly crucial for the future of the alliance, as it will coincide with the conclusion of EUTOPIA MORE (2022–2026) and the beginning of a new phase with EUTOPIA EDGE. By coordinating both projects, UPF will continue to contribute to the development of the alliance and the consolidation of its model of European university cooperation.

Against a backdrop of disinformation, polarisation and geopolitical tensions, the week will highlight universities as spaces for critical thinking, open dialogue and the production of rigorous knowledge, as well as their commitment to academic freedom and democratic values.

The programme includes a range of discussion sessions, activities and opportunities for exchange. The Education Forum will explore the relationship between democracy, inclusion and equal opportunities, while the Research Days, taking place on 25 and 26 November, will focus on knowledge security and the challenges of protecting research integrity while preserving academic openness and international collaboration.

EUTOPIA Week will therefore provide an opportunity to share the outcomes and lessons learned throughout EUTOPIA MORE, while the alliance community prepares to address the new challenges and opportunities that EUTOPIA EDGE will bring.

In this edition, UPF reaffirms its commitment to European university cooperation and to building a more connected, inclusive academic space that is committed to democracy.
