EMAI aims to attract talents worldwide, paying attention to academic excellence as well as aspects of equality, diversity, and inclusion. One of the EMAI’s key missions is to enhance the level of internationalisation of its partner institutions.

  • 1st period: 15/11/2025 - 20/12/2025 at 23:59 (CET) for candidates interested in Erasmus Mundus Scholarships (EMS). 
  • 2nd period: 21/12/2025 - 18/03/2026 at 23:59 (CET) for Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) candidates. 
  • 3rd period: 19/03/2026 - 05/06/2026 at 23:59 (CET) for worldwide self-funded candidates. 
  • 4th period: 06/06/2026 - 06/07/2026 at 23:59 (CET) exclusively for EU self-funded candidates. 

Relevant knowledge acquired through formal and informal learning or experience can be recognised as part of the entry requirements or as part of the completed study requirements. In the recognition process, certificates and other documents are taken into account. Requests for recognition of acquired knowledge will be considered in the process of admittance to the programme by the EMAI Admissions Committee based on the submitted student portfolio. In the course of the study, the recognition process is conducted by the relevant partner institution and its responsible person/ body/committee.

Transitions are possible between study programmes:

  1. which ensures the acquisition of comparable competencies or learning outcomes at the end of the studies;

  2. among which, according to the criteria for recognising knowledge and skills acquired before enrolling in the program, at least half of the obligations under the European Transferable Credit System (hereinafter: ECTS) from the first study program, which relates to the compulsory subjects of the second study programme, can be recognised.

The conditions for transferring to the EMAI programme from other master's studies are:

  1. Fulfil the conditions for enrollment within the EMAI programme.

  2. Fulfil the conditions for enrollment in the second year of the study course in which the student is currently enrolled, with the additional condition that they have passed the study obligations in all subjects that are essential for continuing studies or equivalent subjects at other higher education institutions. The suitability of these subjects is assessed by the EMAI Academic Programme Committee.

The Selection procedure for all EMAI candidates is organised as follows:

  1. Pre-screening phase: the received applications are checked for administrative validation.
  2. Pre-selection: a first analysis will be performed to validate the minimum requirements.
  3. Selection Ranking: all eligible candidates will be ranked by the EMAI Academic Programme Committee according to the following criteria:
    • Academic Excellence, including average grades, ranking of the university of origin, type of previous degree(s), and motivation letter/presentation video.
    • Practical and Professional Experience, including richness of extracurricular and professional activities.
    • Other Criteria such as inclusiveness and added value.
  4. Interviews of shortlisted candidates: interviews will last 10-15 minutes and will be conducted online.
  5. Final selection: students will be selected according to the ranking and the outcomes of the interviews. The final selection will consider additional criteria such as:
    • Nationality
    • Country of residence
    • Specialisation tracks
    • Gender & inclusiveness

A waiting list will be created to be used in case one or more students withdraw.

 

Candidates will be informed of their selection on the following dates:

  • 1st period (EMS): before 10/03/2026.
  • 2nd period (Fee-waivers): on a rolling basis before 22/04/2026. (NEW DEADLINE: 01/06/2026).
  • 3rd period (non-EU self-funded): on a rolling basis before 25/06/2026.
  • 4th period (EU self-funded): on a rolling basis before 20/07/2026.

 

Important: Enrolment takes place in September each year. Selected candidates must carefully check the UPF information related to the enrollment process because it is their responsibility to provide the required documents in a timely manner. 

 

 

Students wishing to appeal the selection decision must submit a duly argumented letter within 7 days (one week) from the date of the official notification. No late appeal will be considered.  

Please note that appeals are not aimed at providing candidates with an additional opportunity to amend their applications after the deadline due to a mistake on their part. Hence, before submitting an appeal, ensure that your request is reasonable. The EMAI Academic Programme Committee usually considers a large number of applications and strives to make decisions that are as equitable as possible. 

The appeal should be addressed to the EMAI Academic Programme Committee at the following email address: [email protected]. The email subject heading should include “EMAI appeal” and the candidate’s full name. 

The EMAI Academic Coordinator will receive your appeal and prepare a response, which the EMAI Academic Programme Committee will review for approval. The EMAI Academic Coordinator may confer with relevant EACEA personnel before transmitting the reply to the student. 

The student will receive written notice of the result of the appeal within 14 days of submitting it. 

The EMAI Academic Programme Committee's decision after an appeal is final and cannot be challenged further.

The European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), in the context of managing the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters, collects and processes the personal data of some of the candidates. In particular, certain data of the EMS holders and non-EMS holders is shared with the Agency and treated according to this privacy statement. 

 

1. Check the admission requirements and the documentation needed

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

The Master's programme can be enrolled by candidates who have completed:

  1. a study programme of at least the first cycle, weighted by at least 180 ECTS, in the fields of information or communication technologies, engineering, physics, mathematics and statistics or an equivalent study programme obtained in accordance with the existing regulations;
  2. a programme of studies of at least a first cycle attested by at least 180 ECTS in other professional fields or an equivalent programme of studies obtained according to the existing regulations, provided that the student has fulfilled the study requirements prior to enrolment which are essential for the pursuit of further studies; or
  3. a programme of studies of at least a first cycle attested by at least 180 ECTS in other professional fields or an equivalent programme of studies obtained according to the existing regulations. These requirements must be in the fields of study referred to in point (a) of these conditions and must range from 10 to a maximum of 60 ECTS and must be determined by the EMAI Academic Programme Committee.

The EMAI Academic Programme Committee will check in the application process that the candidate has completed:

  • mathematical courses, min. 12 ECTS credit points in the following topics: calculus, linear algebra, logic, discrete mathematics, combinatorics, probability and statistics, information theory, graph theory, and number theory;
  • programming courses, min. 12 ECTS credit points in the following topics: programming paradigms, algorithms, and data structures;
  • computing science or computer engineering courses, min. 12 ECTS credit points in the following topics: cryptography, security, computer networks, computer hardware, theoretical computer science, or similar.

 

MANDATORY DOCUMENTS

  1. Identity Card or Passport. If you hold more than one nationality, please attach a copy of all the documents providing those nationalities.
  2. Official university bachelor's or master's degree from the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) or equivalent foreign degree allowing access to a postgraduate degree in the country that issued the degree. Should the applicant have not yet finished their studies at the time of application, they will be asked to sign a statement certifying that they will have completed them before the start of EMAI.
  3. Academic Transcript of Records. This transcript must contain all the courses taken during the entire bachelor's or master's degree at the university of origin. Hence, it should include courses, grades, and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) obtained to complete the programme. 
  4. Curriculum Vitae in English. Maximum lenght of two pages. Applications with longer CV will be automatically rejected.
  5. A letter of motivation in English stating the candidate's interest in following the master's programme (600 to 800 words). Applications with longer motivation letters will be automatically rejected.
  6. A one-minute video introducing yourself, explaining your background and how you will contribute to the EMAI programme. To submit this requirement, attach a Word/PDF file with a link to your video, which should be posted on YouTube,  Drive, Vimeo or any other platform that allows viewing. The video must not exceed 30 Mb. Applications with longer videos will be automatically rejected. Not for self-funded candidates.
  7. Two letters of recommendation (preferably both form academic profiles). Only one letter of recommendation for self-funded candidates.
  8. The EMAI Student Supplement Questionnaire ((NEW, for the 2026-2028 cohort). Questionnaires from previous calls will not be accepted.
  9. English certificate of language proficiency in both written and spoken is requiered. This can be demonstrated through a language test (only TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic or Cambridge). Only certificates with a two-year validity at the time of application will be accepted. Students holding a bachelor's or master's degree from a research university in one of the following countries are exempted from providing the certificate: Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America, or in one of the four member states of the EMAI Consortium.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
-Candidates submitting English language certificates must meet all the necessary scores at the time of the application.
-Candidates from countries not listed above, must provide an English language certificate. No exceptions or exemptions will be granted.
-If your bachelor's degree university is not listed on the application from, please choose another institution from the same country. You will provide the correct name of your university in the EMAI Student Supplement Questionnaire.
