The EMAI Team
EMAI Programme Coordinator

Vicenç Gómez
Associate professor in the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Group at UPF, which he joined with a transnational academic career grant (FP7 Marie Curie Actions) in 2014. He later obtained a Ramón y Cajal fellowship. Prior to this, he worked for more than six years as a research scientist in the machine learning group at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
His main research interests are probabilistic inference and reinforcement learning. He works on developing novel machine learning methods derived from first principles and understanding their theoretical properties, as well as their application for modelling, understanding and improving the functioning of networked systems.
Local coordinators

Massimo Mecella
Full professor in Engineering in Computer Science at Sapienza, with a national habilitation to full professorship; he is conducting research in the fields of software architectures, information systems, distributed middleware and service oriented computing, Mobile and pervasive computing, process management, data and process mining, big data analytics, advanced interfaces and human-computer interaction, focusing on smart applications, environments and communities.
Johannes Textor
Associate professor at the Data Science group at the Institute for Computing and Information Sciences and at the Biomedical Sciences department at Radboudumc. He leads a research group that develops computational methods for biomedical applications but also fundamental machine learning methodology, mainly for causal inference. He teaches courses on statistical inference and causal inference, and has been the director of the Master program in Computing Science at RU before joining the EMAI team in 2026.

Zoran Bosnić
Full professor, Chair of the Artificial Intelligence Department at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science. His research work combines advanced statistical methods with useful application areas such as mining from data streams, recommender systems, user behaviour profiling, e-learning systems and computer communications. He is teaching the following courses: Computer Networks, Functional Programming, and also lectures several classes at the doctoral studies.
