SUMMARY
During the first semester of 2020, a State of Alarm was declared in Spain due to the Covid-19 pandemics. During this period, the Spanish newspapers with the greatest reach (DNR, 2019) published more than 106,000 news related to the coronavirus, in which they addressed hundreds of topics related to the coronavirus. The objective of this research is to propose a methodology focused on: 1) semiautomatically identifying and categorizing these topics, and 2) analyzing the frequency with which journalistic coverage was carried out of them, in the online and printed versions of these newspapers. The results achieved allow the identification of 500 different themes, grouped into 20 categories that describe the coverage of the coronavirus. In this way, they have identified and quantified dynamics of media attention around various events subordinated to the pandemic, which notably affected the following areas: economy, security, work, and entertainment, among others.
