6th Barcelona Summer School on Bi- and Multilingualism (BSBM)

Sept 17-20, 2019 - Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona

The Barcelona Summer School on Bi- and Multilingualism (BSBM) is an academic opportunity intended for post-graduate students and researchers interested in an updated overview of the field in an international academic context.

Teachers of the different modules are well-remowed experts who represent different disciplinary approaches to the topic and will discuss state-of-the-art research on the cognitive, linguistic and cultural aspects of bi- and multilingualism. 

Attendees of the Summer School will have the opportunity to present their work as oral presentation or poster (see Research sessions). All the works will be accepted (see below).

 

Modules and scholars

The school offers 4 modules presented by the following scholars:

Module 1. What happened to the Levelt model and its bilingual versions?

Kees de Bot (University of Groningen)

Module 2. Language experience as a window into brain plasticity and organization

Denise Klein (McGill University, Montreal)

Module 3. Bilingualism and forensic linguistics

Aneta Pavlenko (University of Oslo)

Module 4. The onset of bilingualism: Specificities in the first year of life

Núria Sebastián-Gallés (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona)

Each module will last for 4 hours and one will be held on each of the 4 days (from Tuesday the 17th to Friday the 20th of September). Each day participants will have teaching modules in the morning, as well as Research sessions in the afternoon.

 

Research sessions

Together with the courses, all the attendees will have the opportunity to present their work in three research sessions taking place in the afternoons. Students will have 15-20 minutes to present pre- or post-doctoral research either 'work in progress' or finished projects. Interested students should submit an abstract (see Program for further details).

Abstracts will all be accepted, either as a poster or oral presentation.
