Grup de recerca en informació lexicogràfica
El grupo InfoLex comenzó a gestarse en 1994 con la creación del Instituto Universitario de Lingüística Aplicada. Se constituyó como grupo de investigación dentro de la Universidad Pompeu Fabra en 2004 y fue reconocido como grupo consolidado entre 2005 y 2021 (2005 SGR 00245, 2009 SGR 1138, 2014 SGR 1071, 2017 SGR 1366), bajo la dirección, al comienzo, de M. Paz Battaner, de Janet DeCesaris desde 2009 y de Sergi Torner desde 2012. Desde el año 2022 es un grupo de investigación de la UPF que forma parte del grupo consolidado TraDiLex (2021 SGR 952).
La denominación del grupo InfoLex anuncia los ejes que los vertebren: Info, de información e informatización, y lex, de léxico y lexicografía. Su principal campo de interés es el estudio del léxico como objeto de los diccionarios, tanto monolingües como bilingües, así como la información que contienen los diccionarios. Poniendo el acento en la información del componente léxico y su reflejo en los diccionarios, ha desarrollado investigaciones sobre la lexicografía monolingüe de aprendizaje, la morfología, la semántica, la combinatoria léxica y la neología. Más recientemente, ha ampliado sus líneas de investigación al estudio de la traducción con metodologías de corpus, especialmente para la traducción audiovisual, y a la accesibilidad. InfoLex forma parte del Instituto de Lingüística Aplicada (IULA), un centro de investigación específico de la UPF.

Collocation and collaboration: Developing the ColloCaid writing assistant

Ponente: Geraint Rees is Research Fellow in Corpus-based Lexicography and Academic Writing at the University of Surrey, and Associate Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His research interests include Corpus Linguistics, Lexicography, Vocabulary Acquisition, and Learning Technologies. His current focus is on the integration of lexicographic resources with other technologies.
Resumen: In this talk, I present ColloCaid, a collaborative project drawing on expertise from the fields of Language Teaching, Lexicography, and Human Computer Interaction (HCI) research. ColloCaid is a digital writing assistant developed to help writers of academic English with collocations. I begin by outlining the rationale underlying its development; stressing the need for a resource that not only makes users aware of gaps in their lexical knowledge, but also allows them to address these gaps without interrupting the writing process. I then present the methodology used to develop and evaluate ColloCaid. The development phase includes the creation of a lexical database containing circa 30,000 academic collocations and genuine examples of collocation use adapted from corpora of academic texts. The evaluation phase involves the application of methods from HCI to assess the usability of the tool. I give practical examples of two key lessons learnt during the development process. Firstly, that concepts from HCI research have exciting potential applications in lexicography, and secondly, that, while undoubtably valuable for lexicographers, methods from Corpus Linguistics and Natural Language Processing must not be adopted uncritically. I conclude the talk by presenting several publicly available datasets resulting from the project and highlighting their potential applications in future research.
