Fully immersed into the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and attending to the methodological change of teaching-learging process that it implies, the Escola Superior Politécnica (ESUP) of Universitat Pompeu Fabra, with its Social Council support, develops, since 2009-2010 course, a Mentoring Plan for first course students of the new Engineering Degrees: Computer Science, Telematics and Audiovisual Systems (also including Biomedical Engineering since course 2011-2012). Mentors are last year students from UPF Engineering studies, selecting the best academic expedients and using a selection process that evaluates their motivation to join the program and their communicative aptitudes. This mentors will receive an ENGINYCAT scholarship with the Escuela Superior Politécnica and UPF Social Council co-financing, and Dirección General de Universidades and Empresa de la Generalitat de Cataluña, too.

This mentoring program objective is to guide the new students in their adaptation process, and that is based in three objectives:

- Giving motivational support to new students.
- Giving orientation to new students to develop academic and training tasks.
- Giving an answer to all those questions related to day-to-day work of the new student.

Last two years experience, when ESUP have developed that program (2009-2010 and 2010-2011 courses), lets us know that this program have had a positive impact, not only for new students, also for the mentors. That conclusions are derivated from a quarterly following and evaluation system that allows feedback and improves the whole process.

In the Social Council Awards of UPF(2010 edition) this program won an award in the section of “Teaching Innovation”.

This 2011-2012 course we are going to keep working to offer this program, and we are using the knowledge we have attained from the experience of last years to improve it.
