Labour Insertion @Enginyeries UPF

26.11.2018

The Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (Agència per a la Qualitat del Sistema Universitari de Catalunya, AQU Catalunya) has conducted a study on labour insertion (July 2018) among graduates including items such as “working status”, “adequacy of the insertion”, “quality of working conditions”, “quality of the academic education” and “satisfaction with the education”. Here we summarize the most relevant data regarding, specifically, the Engineering degrees at UPF. We will compare the data of our center to those belonging to the rest of the population with similar characteristics, in other words, the data of the same degrees at other universities in Catalonia.

Before presenting the data summary, some particulars regarding the study must be considered:

  • The data were collected between January and April 2017.
  • The graduate respondents finished their degrees the academic year 2012-2013.
  • In the specific case of the UPF Engineering School, the study included the following degrees: Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Systems Engineering, Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering and Bachelor's Degree in Telematics Engineering.
  • The sample and the sampling error of the questionnaire in each degree are:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering: 29 (56.9%). Sampling error: 12.1%.
    • Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Systems Engineering: 6 (37.5%). Sampling error: 32.7%.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Telematics Engineering: 6 (35.3%). Sampling error: 33.17%.

Now we will present the most relevant data regarding labour insertion:

  • 98.2% of the UPF Engineering School’s alumni are currently working.
  • In comparison to graduates in ICT Engineering degrees from other centers of the Catalan universities, the percentage of graduates from @EnginyeriesUPF performing functions directly related to their degree is globally higher. Table 1 contains the percentage differences in relation to the degrees.

Out of all the graduates from EnginyeriesUPF:

  • 14.3% are currently working in the civil service.
    • The main domains are:
      • Communication Technologies (39%)
      • Services to Business (19%)
      • Education, Culture and Research (9%)
  • 92.9% work full-time.
  • 71.9% have a permanent contract.

Regarding the respondents’ level of satisfaction and the continuity of studies, the following results arose:

  • 17.9% have gone on taking specialized courses
  • 30.4% have gone on pursuing a master or other kinds of postgraduate degrees.
  • 87.7% would choose UPF again to study for their undergraduate degree.

These data and the rest of them included in the study are available on the website of UPEQ-UPF: https://www.upf.edu/web/upeq/inslab17

Finally, according to IQO, in Catalonia, the engineering professionals are those enjoying the best working conditions in terms of occupational quality (69.78%).
