AI and Process Automation for Sustainable Entertainment and Media (EMERALD) IP: Blat Gimeno, Jose AngelThe current surge in video and extended reality content is causing an excessive demand for skilled human resources, data processing, and energy. EMERALD meets this challenge by developing process automation for sustainable media creation; optimizing data use for AI/ML in entertainment and media applications; reducing the power demands for large-scale media data processing; and creating acceptance and demand for AI and sustainable production technologies in the entertainment and media industries. Project start and end: 2023-2026.

Mutaciones de los Motivos Visuales en la Esfera Pública. Representaciones del poder en España 2017-21: pandemia, cambio climático, identidades de género y conflictos raciales IP: Pintor Iranzo, Ivan Co-IP: Salvadó Corretger, Glòria. Over the last five years, the visual construction of the public sphere has undergone a radical transformation around four essential vectors: the pandemic, climate change, gender identities, and racial conflicts. Based on the study of these vectors, the central aim of the project is to analyze the presence, production, and circulation of the visual motifs related to power through images disseminated in print and digital media and TV newsreels in Spain from 2017-2021.nbsp; Project start and end:2022-2025.

The expected impact is to develop a model of public reason that serves to assess the legitimacy of political decisions and institutions at the international and global level -e.g. the European Court of Human Rights-, at the same time that it serves as a useful criteria for the design of political institutions and decisions at the international and global level . Cambio climático, negacionismo y comunicación de influencia. Discurso y estrategias de los think tanks en Europa(THINKClima) PI: Almiron Roig, Núria. This research investigates the universe of think tanks that address climate change issues in Europe in order to study their structure, strategies, discourse and discursive coalitions and thereby identify the main narratives they employ, the reasons supporting those narratives and their impact. Project start and end: 2016-2021.

Capturing the “Big Picture” from Social Media to Enhance Flood Awareness at Global Scale PI: Castillo Ocaranza, Carlos. This project will use data from social networks and hydro-meteorological models to create a real-time global layer of the extent and risk of flooding, for its integration into the Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS). Project start and end: 2018.

SCOM – Sustainable Company PI: Mélon, Lela. This project aims to provide new inter- and multidisciplinary solutions to the challenges of sustainable corporate behaviour through the analysis of ‘best practices’ of ‘highly sustainable companies’, and by using the experience of ‘green public procurement’ in the EU and especially in Catalunya.
