People and organisations with a particular interest in protecting human rights and in social justice can participate in this initiative in a number of different ways - by affiliating to the Legal Clinic (public or private entities, NGOs, or individuals), by giving financial support as Legal Clinic Patrons, or by volunteering.

All people over the age of 18 and organisations who share the values and objectives of the Legal Clinic can be affiliated to it subject to the right of the Legal Clinic Director to refuse right of affiliation. Affiliation is merely a formal expression of support for the initiative and does not entail any further obligation.

The Legal Clinic is a non-profit solidarity-based initiative which is able to operate as a result of financial support from Pompeu Fabra University and the contribution of time by volunteers. Despite this, the Legal Clinic remains in need of additional financial support in relation to certain activities such as communication tasks and expenses (lawyers, experts, translations, etc.) which cannot be provided or obtained for free by the volunteering professionals. Legal Clinic Patron contributions will be made under a patronage agreement in accordance with UPF regulation.

Legally speaking, donations to the Legal Clinic are donations to Pompeu Fabra University and as a result they benefit fully from patronage tax incentives established under current regulation.

Another way of contributing financially to the work of the Legal Clinic is to participate in the Legal Costs Sponsorship Programme. The Legal Clinic tries to improve the law by bringing before the Courts innovative and ground-breaking cases, which if successful may improve social justice and human rights protection in unexplored fields of law. These potentially ground-breaking cases may result in the affected person being liable for the opposing party’s legal costs in cases which do not succeed.Sponsors are therefore needed who are willing to meet these costs should they occur – up to a maximum amount as determined by the sponsor.The payment does not have to be paid all at once.

In order to be able to operate, the Legal Clinic needs volunteers who are able to dedicate some of their free time to this initiative. Any person over the age of 18 is eligible to be a volunteer at the Legal Clinic, particularly those who are or have been linked to UPF. All volunteers will sign a participation agreement in accordance with UPF regulation.

Tasks assigned will depend on the skills and qualifications of the volunteers. The Legal Clinic is not only in need of lawyers, but also of people from many other backgrounds and fields of expertise, such as computer skills, communication experts and social media and administrative support.

The Legal Clinic is always looking to work with with public or private organisations and NGOs, who through their work are aware of vulnerable people who need legal advice and/or representation.
