Consol Serra PhD, specialist in Occupational Medicine and specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Master of Science in Occupational Medicine by London University and has the accreditation of Research (Associate Professor) and Lecturer and Collaborator Lecturer, in the field of Medical and Health Sciences of the Agency for the Quality of the University System of Catalonia (AQU), is Adjunct Associate Professor in Epidemiology, Human Genetics & Environmental Sciences of the University of Texas School of Public Health (USA).

Currently she works as Head of the Occupational Health Service of PSMAR since 2009, is member and principal investigator of the Center for Occupational Health Research (CiSAL), associate professor since 1994 of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences of the University Pompeu Fabra and Head of Studies of the UPF Teaching Unit of Occupational Medicine since 2004. Since 2016 she is the Head of the Social Epidemiology and Occupational Health Group (Epidemiology and Public Health Program-EPISAP) of the IMIM (Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute). Previously, she had worked at the Parc Taulí Health Corporation of Sabadell for 15 years, as assistant physician by opposition of Occupational Medicine; she was responsible of the Occupational Health Unit, and in the Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit, and also in Primary Care as a doctor and in the industrial sector of clothing and textiles as occupational physician.

She is a professor of the Degrees of Medicine, Human Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics and Labor Relations of the UPF, and the Degree in Nursing of the School of Nursing of the Sea. She has also participated as a teacher in the Master's Degree in Occupational Health, in the Interuniversity Master's Degree in Health and Safety at Work, and other post-graduate cycles at UPF and other entities. She is a tutor for theses and final master's projects.

Her scientific activity is focused on several lines of research related to Occupational Health and Public Health, specifically in occupational diseases, work disability, evidence-based occupational health, osteomuscular pathology, and assessment of functional capacity to work for health reasons, occupational risks in the health sector, cancer epidemiology and smoking.

She has published more than 166 scientific articles in Science Citation Index journals and more than 50 in other journals. According to Web Of Science, the number of citations received since 1982 is 5,058, with an index H = 48. She has participated in relevant conferences and national and international scientific meetings, both as author of more than 170 papers by invitation, oral communications and posters, and in the organization and moderator of round tables. She is director of doctoral theses and has won 25 competitive projects, in calls of the Health Research Fund (FIS) and other entities, such as IP or member of the research team, and has participated in national and international multicentre studies. She collaborates as a peer review with several national and international scientific journals, and is an evaluator of the FIS.

She has made stays abroad, specifically at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (United Kingdom) with a Fulbright scholarship (1986-1989), the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda (NCI, USA) in his Short-term Scientific Exchange Program, at the University Of Texas School Of Public Health (Houston, USA) and at Salus Occupational Health & Safety, NHS Lanarkshire (Glasgow, United Kingdom).

In June 2010, as a result of the collaboration between Parc Salut MAR and UPF, she promoted the creation of the first hospital clinical unit in Spain for the diagnosis and notification of occupational diseases, being its coordinator, with the aim of promoting research and teaching in this field.

Since 1999, she has contributed to the Cochrane Collaboration, having been coordinator of the Cochrane Lung Cancer Review Group, is currently a member of the Editorial Group of the Cochrane Work and is the author of several Cochrane systematic reviews. He is also a member of the international network MODERNET-Monitoring Trends in Occupational Diseases and Emerging Risks in a Network, which comes from a COST-Action finalized 2015. He has been the Spanish representative of the Occupational Medicine Section of the UEMS-Union of European Medical Specialists (1999-2013), having been President-elect from 2005 to 2009. She has been a member of the National Commission of Occupational Medicine (Ministry of Health). He has won several awards, highlighting the Professional Excellence Award granted by the Council of Medical Associations of Catalonia.
