The new of the Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) building, whose construction is now well underway, is located on a 9,000 m2 plot near the Barcelona waterfront, next to the Doctor Aiguader building and Hospital del Mar. It will house UPF’s Department of Experimental and Health Sciences, and will share some of its space with the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Municipal Institute of Medical Research (IMIM) and the Barcelona Centre for Regenerative Medicine (CMRB).

The PRBB will have at its disposal some of the latest technology in scientific and technical services and will play host to centres and enterprises from the biomedical world to facilitate transfer between basic research, clinical research and research into epidemiology and public health.

The building, designed by architects Manel Brullet and Albert de Pineda, is elliptical in shape measuring 117 x 74 metres with a ground floor, nine upper floors and a further two below ground level. The total constructed surface area will be 50,664 m2, 26,500 of which will be given over to scientific laboratories and complementary services for the three biomedical institutions that will be housed there.

When the PRBB is finished, it will form, together with the Doctor Aiguader building, the UPF Mar campus, which will concentrate all teaching and research in the field of Experimental and Health Sciences at the University
