Robert Castelo is associate professor of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona (Spain) and head of the Functional Genomics group of the IMIM-UPF joint Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB). He got his PhD in Computer Science by the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, in 2002. Between 2002 and 2006, he worked as a postdoc and lecturer at the DCEXS-UPF/CRG research lab of Roderic Guigó. In 2006 he was awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science a "Ramon y Cajal" research fellowship, to start his own independent research at DCEXS/UPF where, in 2012, became associate professor. Author of more than 30 JCR articles in the fields of statistics, machine learning, computational and molecular biology. Currently teaching bioinformatics and biostatistics at undergraduate level and analysis of high-throughput genomics data within the MSc on Bioinformatics for Health Sciences.

Research lines

Research at Functional Genomics group aims at contributing to narrow the gap between sequence and function by developing computational tools to build networks models of molecular regulatory mechanisms from high-throughput genetics and genomics data.
