The Chamber Orchestra came into existence in 1994 as an Instrumental Ensemble, with the intention of being a meeting place for UPF students and lecturers. From the 2006-2007 academic year, as the group grew, the Pompeu Fabra University Chamber Orchestra emerged, offering an annual season of six concerts inside and outside the University, with a total of two programmes per academic year. Its repertoire ranges from Bach and Vivaldi to contemporary composers such as Hindemith and Genzmer through Mozart and Mendelssohn, among others. Soloists such as David Veiga (violin), Pilar Guarné (piano) or Estela Rodríguez (bassoon) have collaborated with the orchestra.

The OCUPF also seeks to help promote young soloists and gives them the opportunity to play as such. Examples are Javier Arruabarrena (horn), Alfonso Fernández (bassoon) and Esther Pinyol (harp), among others. The OCUPF has played in Barcelona, Terrassa, Mataró and Sabadell. Diego Miguel-Urzanqui has conducted  the Chamber Orchestra since the 2002-2003 academic year.
