28 students with financial difficulties get UPF study grants

This corresponds to the programme’s announcement for the 2016-2017 academic year, funded by voluntary contributions, which exceeds 27,500 euros in this edition. The grants are used to pay for credits for which the students that benefit are registered for.

Pompeu Fabra University has awarded 28 scholarships for a total of 27,520.20 euros within the UPF study grants programme, one of the ways in which the University provides scholarships and grants. This money will help students with financial difficulties to cover the payment of credits for which they are registered and expenses for unpaid credits corresponding to the 2016-2017 academic year.

This year’s announcement, managed by the Academic Management Service, received 48 applications, 28 of which have been granted (last year 21 were awarded of the 26 submitted). Regarding the other applications, 16 have been rejected for a variety of reasons, and four due to receiving the general scholarship during the processing period.

The grants are intended for students at UPF centres registered for official bachelor’s degree courses who face significant financial difficulties to assume the full or partial cost of tuition and other mandatory public fees payable.

These financial problems must be the result of an unforeseen situation that severely affects the family economy because the standard scholarship has been turned down (for not reaching the average mark), or because another grant awarded, such an equity grant, is not enough to cover expenses.

A programme funded by voluntary contributions

The 2016-2017 edition of the UPF study grants programme, set up in 2013, has been funded by the Pompeu Farra student association, with a contribution of 15,000 euros; through voluntary donations by the students when enrolling; by the Catalan Association for Aid to Education Centres and Students (ACACEE), by means of the table football games set up on the different UPF campuses, and is complemented by a contribution by the University itself. It also receives contributions from other members of the university community and alumni through UPFund - Sponsorship and Patronage
