About the Comparative National Elections Project (CNEP)

We are proud to announce that Mariano Torcal, RECSM director, has been appointed co-Principal Investigator of the Comparative National Elections Project. 

The Comparative National Elections Project (CNEP) is an international collaboration conducting global election surveys. Since its founding in the late 1980s, CNEP has grown to include 70 election surveys conducted between 1990 and 2025, spanning 30 countries and Hong Kong, and covering four continents.

CNEP’s common core questionnaire incorporates new, innovative questions on political intermediation and polarization with essential time-series items from earlier studies, allowing researchers to analyze trends in their consequences on political attitudes and behaviour across countries and over time, with some national series extending more than three decades.
