This call is to recruit a research assistant who will help manage simultaneous research projects, with a focus on software projects for the social sciences and projects involving survey data and statistical analyses. In addition to the tasks described below, research assistantship tasks include writing reports/deliverables and the production of deliverable documentation. It also includes coordinating software user support and administration of software.

We are a research group focused on social sciences from a quantitative and computational perspective. We love science! And would like to invite candidates who share our passion for knowledge.
 

Tasks:
• Support with the management of research projects.
• Project planning and time management.
• Managing and providing software user support.
• Providing non-technical software support (software administration).
• Support with writing reports/research deliverables in the area of quantitative social sciences/survey science.
• Conducting literature reviews on topics in the quantitative social sciences/survey science.
• Managing scientific communication content.
• Support with the preparation of databases.
• Support with the submission of academic articles to peer-reviewed journals.
• Support with the creation of Open Science data and code repositories

Required qualifications for candidate:
• Experience in management of software projects and management of research projects is a plus.
• Other project management experience is an asset if relevant to the position. Please specify in the motivation letter.
• The position is in English language, fluency in written and oral English language is a requirement.
• Master’s degree or PhD studies (candidates from technical areas that are now focused on management are welcome to apply as are Master’s students in their last year, or PhD students who discovered they would like a change in their careers from conducting research to research related areas).
• Familiarity with LaTex (Overleaf) or willingness to learn.
• Knowledge of MS Office suite.
• A general ability and affinity to using computer tools and programs. We employ tools and create methods, so abilities to handle tools and willingness to learn more are needed.
• Long-term interest in science and research.


Other aspects that are valuable:
• Experience in science communication.
• (Web) programming skills.
• Familiarity with graphic design or graphic design software (e.g. Illustrator or Canva).

Selection criteria:
• CV and previous experience: 1-5
• Disciplinary fit with the project: 1-5 points
• Relevant additional skills: 1-5 points
• Test: 1-5

The candidate must obtain a minimum of 3.5 points for each of the selection criteria to be invited to an interview.
The selection committee will decide on the need for an interview with the shortlisted candidates.
A test of problem resolution at the workplace and on the ability to learn computer tools will be provided to shortlisted candidates after the interview.

Salary/duration/benefits/facilities:
Type of contract: Three-month trial period, then indefinite contract, in accordance with the terms of article 23 bis of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation.

Group: 3.

Salary: 1.700 € gross months approximately.

The candidate position can be part- or full-time starting, as soon as possible, in March, 2024 at the latest.

The labour contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish public health and social security system, as well as financial support for the participation in project-relevant meetings.

The candidate will become a member of the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RESCM).

This position offers a career plan. Working hours and location is hybrid: a combination of remote work and on-site at UPF in Barcelona.
