Biography

Lydia Repke is an external collaborator at the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM). She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Survey Design and Methodology Department of GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences in Mannheim, Germany.

Lydia was appointed spokesperson of the Leibniz PostDoc Network in October 2018. In 2020, she was accepted into the Young Academy of the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz (German: Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur Mainz, AdW Mainz) and the Leibniz Mentoring Program. She further is a member of the Ethics Committee at GESIS and a member of the Leibniz project group on Equal Opportunities.

Lydia received her Ph.D. from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in 2017 in the field of cultural psychology supervised by Verònica Benet-Martínez. Her dissertation, entitled "Multiple Cultural Identifications, Personality, and Social Networks," was funded by the German National Academic Foundation and received the Special Doctorate Award from UPF in 2019. Lydia's thesis adds to the adequate understanding of the acculturation processes affecting immigrants and their descendants by not merely focusing on individual characteristics but also including actual intercultural contact. In particular, Lydia explored the dynamic interplay between how bicultural individuals manage their multiple (and sometimes conflictual) cultural value systems and identifications, and the changes in their personal social networks.

Lydia was part of various research groups at UPF: the Behavioral and Experimental Social Sciences (BESS) group, the Advanced Survey Quality Methods (ASQME) group, the Management and Behavioral Research Breakfast Seminars group, and the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Immigration (GRITIM).

Lydia holds a M.A. and a B.A. in Political and Administrative Sciences from the Universität Konstanz (Uni KN), Germany (2011, 2009), and a M.Sc. for Research in Political Science from UPF, Barcelona (2011). In 2008/2009, she was a visiting student at Boğaziçi Üniversitesi in Istanbul, Turkey.
