Introducing AI to city administrators - Eurocities Knowledge Society Forum

The Eurocities Knowledge Society Forum meeting was held in Barcelona on 23-25 January 2019. The meeting focused on technological sovereignty and artificial intelligence and its potential application in city management and urban services. Political debates and more technical discussions on technological sovereignty and critical use of data were part of the programme together with a round-table workshop on artificial intelligence and early application in cities, where three of our DTIC researchers participated on 25th January 2019. The round-table consisted of the following AI experts, who quickly introduced each AI technologies to the cities representatives:

-       Dr. Carles Sierra (IIIA): Multiagent Systems and Electronic Institutions

-       Dr. Anders Jonsson (UPF, AI research group) Machine Learning: reinforcement learning

-       Dr. Leo Wanner (UPF, TALN research group): Natural Language Processing

-       Dr. Fernando Vilariño (CVC): Computer Vision

-       Dr. Ulises Cortes (UPC): Machine Learning

-       Dr. Emilia Gómez (UPF, MTG / MIR Lab) Ethics (JRC)

The objective of this session was for AI experts to share knowledge among the city representatives and at exploring altogether services and areas where AI can be already applied.

Eurocities is the network of more than 140 governments of the major European cities. Barcelona hosted the meeting of the thematic group Knowledge Society focused on Digital Ethical Standards, Technological Sovereignty and Responsible Artificial Intelligence in cities.
