From May 5 to 9, 2025, NOVA University of Lisbon will host the Innovation Challenges for Researchers, an initiative aimed at PhD students and researchers interested in applying their research in a practical and collaborative context, connecting with professionals from across Europe.

This year, the event will focus on the theme of the ocean, leveraging Lisbon's strong innovation ecosystem and its academic expertise in this field. Over five days, participants will work in multidisciplinary teams, applying Design Thinking methodologies with the support of the NOVA Mentors Network. The goal is to develop innovative solutions to the challenges posed by various institutions and organizations in the following key areas:

  • Protection and regeneration
  • Maritime transport and ports
  • Water management
  • Blue biotechnology

The program includes:

  • Visit to one (or more) Industry partner and the Campus
  • Group work and team presentations
  • Design Thinking Session
  • Mentoring sessions
  • Dynamic talks highlighting innovations within the ecosystem

This is a great opportunity to connect with researchers from the EUTOPIA network, work on real projects, and closely explore the ocean innovation sector in Portugal. Researchers whose research line is not focused on the Ocean but who are still very interested in collaborating with colleagues on this topic, are also welcome to apply.

You can find the details of the call for applications here.

If you're interested, you can register through the following form before April 4, 2025.
