Connected Learning Community Legal History explores “The End(s) of War” at UPF

On February 27 and 28, 2026, the Connected Learning Community Legal History of EUTOPIA, composed of professors and students from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), CY Cergy, Ljubljana, and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), held its meeting at the UPF Ciutadella Campus. The event, organized by Professor Alfons Aragoneses from the Department of Law, included four professors and twenty-one students and focused on the theme “The End(s) of War.”
During the meeting, students presented their research, covering a wide range of topics: the Peace of Vienna, colonial wars, post-World War I legal transformations, exile and repression after the Spanish Civil War, international justice, and technological changes associated with the end of armed conflicts. Presentations were organized chronologically, starting with wars before 1914, followed by the interwar period, the end of World War II, and postwar European unification projects.
On the second day, the group took a guided tour of the Born archaeological site to examine the effects of the War of Spanish Succession in Barcelona and concluded the day with a self-guided visit to the war and art exhibitions at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), focused on the Civil War and its aftermath.
This event gave students the opportunity to apply historical knowledge and research methodologies, fostering dialogue between European universities and historical disciplines. The initiative will continue with a virtual exhibition showcasing the research conducted.
