Oliver Laband is a Ph.D. candidate at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He earned his Bachelor's degree in History at the University of Birmingham and his Master's degree in Global History at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. Oliver has investigated gender ideals in the Atlantic world through focusing on the self-aggrandising depictions of conquistador's accounts. He is particularly interested in examining the interactions between Mesoamericans and Europeans and the development of a hegemonic masculine ideal in 16th and 17th century Mexico.
